Plastics in the Environment and Society (PLENTY)

06.12.2017

Plastics in the Environment and Society (PLENTY) is a new research platform with participation of the Faculty of Lifesciences, the Faculty of Earth Sciences, Geography and Astronomy and the Faculty of Social Sciences.

The platform, led by Gerhard J. Herndl, examines global plastic pollution in a holistic approach. In addition to the biotic and abiotic interactions on the surface of plastic in aquatic systems, the aim is to investigate how information and altered perception can potentially alter the use of plastic in society as well as the associated material flows.

Research platforms address academic questions that can only be studied from an interdisciplinary perspective. Thus, the underlying goal is the promotion of especially innovative, interdisciplinary research projects. Research platforms are established for a duration of three years, which may be extended
