Thermophilic archaeon with highly mobile genome enriched for the first time

18.04.2018

Ammonia oxidizing archaea (AOA) of the phylum Thaumarchaeota are widespread in moderate environments but their occurrence and activity has also been demonstrated in hot springs.

Scientists around Christa Schleper present the first enrichment of Candidatus Nitrosocaldus cavascurensis- a thermophilic representative with a sequenced genome - from a hot spring in Ischia, Italy. It facilitates the search for adaptive strategies and for traits that shape the evolution of Thaumarchaeota. [read more]
