Sustainability on Campus

23.11.2022

On November 17, 2022, the first faculty-wide sustainability event organized by the CampSus (Campus & Sustainability) network took place at UBB.

In the mensa area of the UBB, representatives of the Green Labs, UniNEtZ SDG sponsorships, Scientists For Future and Global Youth Biodiversity Network  provided information and exchanged ideas on sustainability topics. The Biology Student Council (StV) was present with a clothing exchange and the botanical garden offered plants to staff and students. Isabel Mischka, botanical artist and illustrator and part of the "Vienna School of Botanical Illustration," painted live on site and spoke about the importance of botanical illustrations.

Robin Foods held a fermentation workshop with "rescued" foods, and Isabella Klebinger gave a guided tour of biodiverse St. Marx, with special information on endangered species. In lecture hall 2, the presentation of the CampSus network was followed by talks by Prof. Georg Gratzer (SDG halftime: glimpses of an agenda in the break room) and Prof. Gerhard Herndl (Towards sustainable ecosystem services of the ocean - SDG14). At the end, the secret of the "hourglass sculpture" in the entrance area of the UBB was revealed by Barbara Gereben-Krenn and Adrian Hiss (Fridays For Future).

Big thanks for organizing the first sustainability event go to Luise Scheiber (Sustainability Coordinator) and Eva Millesi (Sustainability Officer)!
