Franz Essl and Georg Hoffmann are among the "Highly Cited Researchers 2021"

Franz Essl (Dep. of Botany and Biodiversity Research) an Georg Hoffmann (Dep. of Nutritional Sciences) are among the approx. 6,000 most frequently cited scientists worldwide.

Franz Essl has been researching and teaching at the Department of Botany and Biodiversity Research at the Faculty of Life Sciences since 2013. He is considered a leading expert in neobiota research and is also active in the leadership team of the Austrian Biodiversity Council.

Georg Hoffmann studied Oecotrophology (specialization: Nutritional Sciences) at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. In July 2012, he took up a three-year professorship in nutritional sciences at the Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Vienna, where he continues to research and teach today. His research interests include biomarkers of overweight and obesity and tumor diseases associated with metabolic syndrome.

43 of the approx. 6,000 most frequently cited scientists worldwide conduct research at least partly in Austria, 11 of them at the University of Vienna. The list of "Highly Cited Researchers 2021" was published on November 16 by the Web of Science Group, a company of the data group Clarivate Analytics. Scientific papers published and cited between 2010 and 2020 were used for the analysis.
