28.09.2021

In October 2021, the University of Vienna Biology Building will go into full operation for 500 employees and 5,000 students, who will find an inspiring environment for research, teaching, studying and administration in the new innovative building, which is characterised by sustainability and flexibility.

The pre-opening on Thursday, 23 September was a great success for all those involved in the project and also provided an opportunity for (3G-facilitated) joint celebrations.

The guests were welcomed by Rector Heinz W. Engl and the Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences, Gerhard Ecker, and Michael Wagner, Deputy Head of the Centre for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science.
Introductory words were spoken by user representative Thomas Bugnyar from the Faculty of Life Sciences and Matthias Horn from the Centre for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science.
Christian Kocevar, who was responsible for the construction organisation and management, reported on interesting facts about architecture and construction.

Cornelia Blum, Head of the Corporate Communications, moderated the event and the Philharmonic Orchestra of the University of Vienna provided the enchanting background music.

The official opening on 8 October will be attended by Federal Minister Heinz Faßmann and Mayor Michael Ludwig, among others.
