Nearly all living beings on our planet rely on associations with other species, and frequently these partners are microbial symbionts: symbiosis is a fundamental principle of nature. The key research area "Symbioses" is studies processes and molecular mechanisms involved in microbial symbioses, their ecology and evolution using diverse model systems ranging from protists to animals and plants.
