Georg Hoffmann and Franz Essl amongst the most cited researchers worldwide

Eleven researchers from the University of Vienna are amongst the world's most "highly cited researchers". Two of those are members of the Faculty of Life sciences.

Georg Hoffmann from the Department of Nutritional Sciences and Franz Essl from the Department of Botany and Biodiversity Research are amongst the 1% of the most cites researchers of their respective fields. The ranking "highly cited researchers 2021" was published on November 16th by the Web of Science Group, a part of the data company Clarivate Analytics. For the analysis, all scientific publications between 2010 and 2020 were surveyed.

 

 

Franz Essl is affiliated with the Department of Botany and Biodiversity research of the Faculty of Life Sciences since 2013 He is one of the leading experts in the field of neobiota, invasive plant or animal species which can threaten native ecosystems. He is also a member of the leading team of the Austrian Biodiversity Council. In this video he talks about the effects of foreign species on established ecosystems and how this is connected to the global climate crisis.

Georg Hoffmann is affiliated with the Department of Nutritional Sciences since 2012. His special focus is the systematic review of studies about biomarkers of overweight and adipositas, or at tumors connected with metabolic syndrome, etc. These meta-analyses help to make sense of the numerous, often contradictory, studies which study the influence of nutrition on health and provide a tool for predicting effects and finding new links.
